- A concerned Kenyan parent has sparked debate online after revealing
disturbing text messages he found on his Grade 4 son’s tablet while the child
was chatting with a fellow pupil.
The worried father shared screenshots of the conversation on
social media, expressing shock at the vulgar language between the two young
boys.
According to the parent, he stumbled upon the messages while
checking the tablet and was left speechless.
“Came across these chats on my Grade 4 son’s tablet akiwa
anachat na beshte yake ambaye pia ako Grade 4 and I was like wuueeh… hizi simu
tunanunulia watoto zitawaharibu kabisa,” he wrote.
The parent admitted he is now confused about the next step
to take and sought advice from fellow parents and Kenyans online.
“What should I do now? May I take the tablet for good ama
nifanye nini? Need your advice please before it’s too late,” he added.
The post sparked an online buzz, with many parents
expressing concern over children’s exposure to smartphones, tablets, social
media and unrestricted internet access at a very young age.
Some social media users advised the father to confiscate the gadget completely, arguing that children in lower primary school are too young to have unrestricted access to the internet.
