Tuesday, June 2, 2026 - Excitement surrounding the revival of passenger rail services along the Gilgil-Ol Kalou-Nyahururu line turned tragic after the newly launched Government train was involved in an accident during its maiden trip on Monday.
The train, which had generated significant public attention
following the restoration of the railway line after more than four decades,
reportedly collided with a personal vehicle during the historic journey to Ol
Kalou.
Witnesses said the impact of the collision left the vehicle
badly damaged, with emergency responders rushing to the scene to rescue the
victims.
Two people who were inside the car sustained serious
injuries and are currently fighting for their lives in hospital.
The revived rail service had been widely celebrated as a
major milestone aimed at improving transport and boosting economic activities
in parts of Nakuru and Nyandarua counties.
Kenya Railways had earlier expressed optimism that the restored line will enhance connectivity, promote tourism and ease movement of passengers and goods in the region.
