Tuesday, March 31, 2026 - A disturbing video has emerged showing the moment a woman narrowly escaped being run over by a flashy matatu in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
In the clip circulating online, the matatu, which was being
driven on the wrong side of the road, is seen speeding as rowdy youths hang
dangerously on the door.
The woman, who was crossing the road at the time, is forced
to quickly move out of the way as the vehicle approaches, narrowly avoiding
what could have been a tragic accident.
The incident has sparked concern among road users, with many
pointing to the growing trend of reckless driving by flashy city matatus,
popularly known as “nganyas.”
Some drivers continue to flout traffic rules with little
regard for public safety, at times even in the presence of traffic police
officers.
A number of these matatus are owned by influential
individuals, including President William Ruto’s son, George.
