DCI sets record straight on alleged death of officer inside Kiambu Road headquarters - Confirms he was electrocuted!

Monday, February 23, 2026 - The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed claims circulating online that one of its officers was found dead at the agency’s headquarters along Kiambu Road.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 23rd, the directorate clarified that the officer, attached to DCI Kajiado North Sub‑County, died on Saturday, February 21st, following an incident at his home in Ngong.

Contrary to social media reports, the officer was discovered lying unresponsive in his kitchen garden by a neighbour’s house help, not by family members.

“Preliminary scene documentation conducted by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers, alongside personnel from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), identified a live electrical wire beneath the surface of the garden, which is believed to have caused electrocution as he tilled the land,” DCI stated.

The officer was pronounced dead at Ngong Level IV Hospital, and the matter was reported at Ngong Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

“The entire DCI family extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Corporal Muiruri.”

“We mourn with you the loss of a beloved son, colleague, and dedicated officer,” the statement added, urging the public to avoid speculation and respect the family’s privacy.
