Wednesday, January 14, 2026 - Kenyan influencer and digital content creator, Naomi Kuria, has candidly shared how her battle with bhang nearly cost her career.
Speaking in an interview with Oga Obinna, Naomi revealed
that she walked away from a lucrative Ksh 600,000 brand deal after failing to
deliver due to substance use.
“W33d ilikuwa inafanya na get lazy. I remember I
terminated a very good contract with Uber because they told me to redo a video,
and I had already smoked, and I was so lazy to retake the video, and they were
paying around Ksh 600,000.”
“I was like, I’m not doing it, I was just lazing around on
my couch,” she disclosed.
Naomi admitted that her journey into content creation in
2020 came with financial comfort that pushed her deeper into drugs.
“YouTube used to pay us well, and that comfort made me sink
so much into drugs,” she said, adding, “I started smoking a lot of w33d,
cigarettes and chew miraa.
“I was not doing alcohol because my body ilikuwa inakata, so
by the fact I was not drinking nilikuwa najipata na consume hizi zengine sana.”
She confessed that quitting was a painful process.
“I got into depression because I wanted to quit because it
used to bother me I was not doing the right thing” Naomi revealed.
Beyond laziness and lack of motivation, she noted bhang
affected her memory, speech and appearance.
“Ilifanya mtu akuwe lazy… I was struggling to make a
speech… I was having dark lips and red eyes,” she added.
