04, 2025 - Tinderet parliamentary aspirant, Shadrack Maritim, who vanished
after a morning jog in Eldoret on October 27th, has resurfaced in
Mbale, Uganda, sparking renewed debate over alleged abductions of political
figures.
Maritim’s family had earlier linked his disappearance to
National Police Service Commission (NPSC) Chief Executive Officer, Peter Leley,
claiming he had threatened the aspirant in 2023.
In a WhatsApp message, Leley allegedly warned Maritim that
he will “show him hajui” if he continued criticizing him.
Last week, Maritim’s relatives filed a petition at the High
Court demanding answers over what they termed as an abduction.
On Wednesday, the court was informed that Maritim contacted
his family on Tuesday night, saying his abductors had abandoned him near Mbale.
According to lawyer Kibe Mungai, Maritim sounded frightened
during the call with his brother.
The court directed Mungai to file a detailed affidavit on
the circumstances of the disappearance and set the matter for mention on
December 10th, 2025.
“The petition won’t stop just because he has been released.
We will pursue this to its logical conclusion,” Mungai said.
While the State Law Office argued that the petition had been
overtaken by Maritim’s reappearance, the family’s lawyer insisted that broader
concerns remain.
“There is an emerging pattern of missing Kenyans resurfacing
near the Uganda border ahead of habeas corpus hearings.”
“His appearance does not close the matter,” Mungai added.
