Thursday, October 23, 2025 - Royal Media Services Chairman, Dr. SK Macharia, on Thursday visited the family home of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Siaya County, where the ODM leader was laid to rest on Sunday.
The visit was a personal tribute to a man Macharia described
as a “dear younger brother,” and a continuation of a friendship that spans
generations.
Accompanied by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Homa Bay
Governor, Gladys Wanga, Dr. Macharia paid his respects at Raila’s gravesite
before heading to the Odinga family’s Opoda farm in Bondo to console Raila’s
widow, Mama Ida Odinga.
“I came to pat Ida’s back on the loss of her husband.”
“We go back with Ida and Raila during Jaramogi’s time,”
Macharia said, referencing Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga
Odinga, Raila’s father.
“My family and I have lost a family member, a great friend,
and a confidant,” he said.
He recalled a poignant moment when Jaramogi asked him to
look after his sons, Raila and Oburu, a promise he says shaped his lifelong
support for the Odinga family.
Macharia praised Raila as “a great man, just like his
father,” and expressed confidence that the full impact of his contributions to
Kenya’s democracy will be appreciated in time.
“Take heart, Mama Ida, we are with you,” he added.
Mama Ida thanked Macharia for his unwavering support since
the early 1990s.
“The story of the Odingas and SK goes way back. It started in the early
90’s, and SK has been a close friend of this family. I remember in early 1992,
in March, when I was sacked for the second time, the first person who reached
out to me was SK,” she said.
“May God bless you abundantly,” she said.
