Thursday, October 23,
2025 - Homa Bay Town lawmaker, Peter Kaluma, has shared a moving memory of
the late Raila Odinga, revealing that the former Prime Minister once joked
about dying at the age of 80, a prediction that ultimately came to pass.
Raila passed away on Wednesday, October 15th, in
India while undergoing treatment, aged 80.
Speaking in a recent interview, Kaluma recalled a
light-hearted conversation he had with Raila while inviting him to his late
father's third death anniversary.
Kaluma mentioned that in his own family, men typically
passed away at 81.
In response, Raila quipped, “In our lineage, we die at 80.”
"I made the joke to him that you know my father died at
81, my grandfather died at 81, and my great-grandfather died at 81.”
“I then told him that in our lineage, once I hit 80, going
to 81, know I'm saluting you bye," said Kaluma.
Kaluma said the remark, which seemed casual at the time, now
feels like a premonition.
“Looking back, I’m asking myself - what was Baba really
saying?” he reflected.
The MP added that Raila shared many nuggets of wisdom in
their final meetings, which have taken on deeper meaning since his passing.
