Wednesday, October
22, 2025 - ODM Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga, has accused
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga of acting as a political mouthpiece for former
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in making offensive remarks about the late
Raila Odinga.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, October 22nd,
2025, Wanga condemned Kahiga’s comments made during a burial in Nyeri, which
appeared to mock Odinga’s passing.
She described the statements as “reckless, shameful, and
politically choreographed.”
“We are still mourning Raila Odinga, yet we must respond to
these despicable utterances.”
“The principle
is simple: the friend of your enemy is your enemy. Anyone aligning themselves
with Gachagua and Kahiga in mocking Raila Odinga can never be counted as our
friend,”
“Kahiga is not speaking for himself - he is Gachagua’s
mouthpiece,” Wanga stated.
She demanded Kahiga’s resignation from his role as
Vice-Chairman of the Council of Governors, citing his conduct as unfit for
national leadership.
“He may lead in his village, but he cannot lead nationally,”
she said.
Wanga further accused Kahiga of exploiting Raila’s legacy
for personal and political gain, calling his repeated references to Odinga
divisive and disrespectful.
“Kahiga has benefited from Raila’s sacrifices, yet chooses
to dishonour his memory,” she added.
She urged fellow leaders to reject such behaviour and uphold
the dignity of the late Prime Minister, praising Raila’s lifelong commitment to
unity, democracy, and equality.
Kahiga has since apologized and stepped down from his role
as Vice-Chairman of the Council of Governors.
