Monday, March 10, 2025 - Chaos erupted at Shianda Market in Mumias East constituency after former Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and the area MP, Peter Salaysa, clashed in public.
Salaysa confronted Echesa as he was addressing the public at
a roadside rally, leading to a heated confrontation between the two
politicians.
Salasya hurled insults at Echesa, accusing him of being a
thief.
“Mwizi wewe, takakataka,” the first-time MP was heard
shouting as he confronted Echesa head on and dared him to a fist fight.
On the other hand, Echesa fired back at Salaysa and
threatened to deal with him mercilessly.
“Mimi si mtu wa kutishwa. Relax kijana,” Echesa said
and lamented that Salaysa has been belittling him in public functions.
Echesa went on to brag that he is more experienced than
Salysa, having served as a Cabinet Secretary.
“Mimi nimekua waziri. Nipee heshima,” Echesa said.
Supporters of the two politicians engaged in shouting
matches as the altercation ensued.
Lately, Salaysa and Echesa have not been seeing each other
eye to eye.
A few weeks ago, Salysa issued a scathing warning to Echesa,
accusing him of orchestrating chaos and threatening the stability of the
Western region.
In a fiery Instagram video, Salasya did not mince his words,
branding Echesa a “nuisance” and linking him to a recent wave of lawlessness.
He alleged that Echesa was behind the incitement of local
youths, which resulted in the burning of 50 acres of sugarcane belonging to the
struggling Mumias Sugar Company.
“This man must be arrested, or I will arrest him with my
boys and take him to a police station,” an infuriated Salasya declared.
