WINNIE ODINGA speaks on supporting RUTO’s 2027 re-election bid amid growing uncertainty within ODM

Monday, August 03, 2026 - East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has said she has not decided whether she will support President William Ruto’s re‑election bid in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in a recent interview, Winnie described the question as difficult, noting that her position remained undecided.

“That’s a very hard question to ask in a position such as this. I have not decided,” she said.

On whether the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will front a presidential candidate in 2027, Winnie explained that the party had not reached a resolution.

She pointed out that ODM delegates were yet to convene for a national convention, scheduled later this year, where such decisions would be made.

Her remarks come amid growing uncertainty within ODM.

The party has split into two factions.

The Linda Mwananchi wing, led by Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Siaya Governor James Orengo, has vowed to rally against Ruto in the 2027 polls.

On the other hand, a faction led by Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga has thrown its weight behind Ruto’s re‑election bid, while demanding that an ODM member be selected as his running mate.
