Saturday, August 22, 2026 - Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale turned a moment of grief into unexpected humour during the funeral of his late wife, Gloria Sekeiyan, in Malinya, Kakamega County.
Addressing mourners on Friday, August 21, Khalwale
challenged men from Shinyalu to consider marrying his daughters, joking that
they seemed too intimidated to approach them.
“Whenever I go to Shinyalu, I tell men there I have many daughters; they should come and marry them, but they are afraid of my daughters.
“You men!” Khalwale remarked,
sparking laughter amid the solemn occasion.
The vocal senator used the moment to highlight the achievements of one of his daughters, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale.
He praised her academic journey from Malinya Primary School
to Alliance Girls High School, and then to the University of Nairobi, where she studied economics.
Flavia now works at East African Breweries Limited.
“Flavia was a top student… She is a working‑class woman. Why can’t you marry her?” Khalwale asked, blending pride with humour.
Gloria, who died on August 15 after suffering a heart attack, was the mother of eight of Khalwale’s children.
