GACHAGUA blasts RUTO for humiliating DP KINDIKI during UDA-ODM retreat in Naivasha - "He is still a husband and father"

Thursday, August 13, 2026 – DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of orchestrating public humiliation against his deputy, Kithure Kindiki, during the ODMUDA retreat in Naivasha.

Gachagua questioned why the Head of State permitted ODM leaders to openly declare interest in the deputy president’s seat in Kindiki’s presence.

He cited Kisii Governor Simba Arati’s remarks that the DP position belonged to ODM and Kindiki would have to join the Orange Party to retain it in 2027.

"Kasongo had planned to humiliate him, so he sent Simba Arati, who claimed that the DP seat belonged to ODM and that if Kindiki wanted it, then he should join the Orange Party.

“Kindiki bowed his head out of embarrassment," Gachagua stated.

The former deputy president also recounted a redcarpet incident in which Kindiki was sidelined while Ruto and ODM leader Oburu Oginga received VIP treatment.

He argued that Ruto was deliberately humiliating his deputy to edge him out without appearing to dismiss him outright.

“Just because he does not have numbers, and he has been rejected in the Mountain, what is the need to humiliate him?

“He is still a husband and father,” Gachagua said.

Drawing parallels with his own tenure, Gachagua insisted he resisted similar treatment.

“Ruto and Oburu were on the red carpet while Kindiki was on the grass.

“When he tried that with me, I would push out anyone who attempted to walk on the red carpet,” he said, referencing past confrontations with David Ndii.

He further argued that Kindiki’s appointment, rather than election, had made him complacent about the alleged mistreatment.

Gachagua also mocked Ruto for partnering with ODM, which he described as “on its deathbed,” alleging Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna had taken over the party’s core base.
