Saturday, August 8, 2026 - Popular Mugithi disc jockey, DJ Macdee, has announced the recovery of his expensive DJM-S11 mixer, nearly one month after it was stolen from his car in the early hours of July 7.
In a detailed statement, Macdee said his car was broken into
between 3:30am and 4:30am on July 7, resulting in the theft of the high-end DJ
equipment.
He immediately reported the incident at Mugutha Police
Station, where he said officers attended to the matter professionally.
However, with his radio and television duties and other
client commitments continuing, Macdee said he purchased another mixer just two
days after the theft to ensure his work was not disrupted.
The breakthrough came last week when he spotted a DJM-S11
mixer being advertised online for KSh 280,000.
According to Macdee, the online advertisement immediately
raised suspicion, prompting friends and fellow DJs to send him photos and
alerts concerning the equipment.
With the assistance of two officers from Mugutha Police
Station and his brother, Macdee said they launched an operation to establish
the whereabouts of the mixer.
He identified the person advertising the equipment as DJ
Mkenia, who led them to a location where the mixer was being kept.
The equipment was subsequently recovered from a home in
Parklands belonging to a man identified as Shah Ashish.
Macdee said the mixer was positively identified as his after
its serial number matched the number appearing on his original purchase
receipt.
He also pointed to distinctive marks on the equipment,
including areas where his stickers had allegedly been removed, leaving behind
adhesive residue and traces of his blue-and-white theme colours.
"There is no doubt whatsoever that the mixer is
mine," Macdee said.
According to the DJ, officers also found several second-hand
electronic items at the Parklands residence, including televisions, mixers,
generators, lights, speakers and other equipment.
Macdee said Shah Ashish and the DJ who led investigators to
the location were arrested and taken to Mugutha Police Station.
However, the recovery was followed by another development
that left the DJ questioning the handling of the case.
Macdee said that when he visited Mugutha Police Station the
following morning, he was informed that Shah Ashish had been released on cash
bail around midnight by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).
The DJ expressed concern that he had neither been consulted
nor informed about the suspect's release despite being the complainant and
owner of the recovered equipment.
He questioned why a person found in possession of his
recovered property was released at night and what procedure was followed in
granting the cash bail.
Macdee also questioned why he was not notified before the
release.
He said his primary concern now goes beyond recovering the
mixer, insisting that investigators should establish who broke into his vehicle
and stole the equipment on July 7.
"Recovering the equipment is a major step, but
identifying and holding accountable the person or persons responsible for the
break-in and theft remains my primary concern," he said.
Macdee maintained that he was not seeking special treatment,
but wanted the matter investigated transparently and professionally.
"I am not seeking favors. I am seeking justice,"
he said.
The DJ has called for the investigation to continue so that the circumstances surrounding the original theft can be established and whoever was responsible held accountable.
