Wednesday, July 29, 2026 -Nairobi County Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has clarified that the American man who recently went viral after being spotted roaming the streets of Utawala is not homeless, as widely speculated.

In a statement shared on social media, Mosiria said he decided to visit the man after many people tagged him in a viral video referring to him as the "Mzungu Chokoraa."

According to Mosiria, after he shared the video, the man's wife contacted him.

“I learned that he is not homeless. He is a married man, a father of five children, and has been living with his family in Texas, USA, ”Mosiria said.

He revealed that, according to the family, the man has bipolar disorder and that his condition worsened following the death of his mother.

He is currently receiving medical care and takes prescribed medication.

Mosiria explained that the family told him the man occasionally leaves home and wanders the streets due to his illness, leading many people to mistakenly believe that he is homeless.

He added that the man is also passionate about recycling and environmental conservation, which is why he is sometimes seen collecting recyclables or spending time at dumpsites.

Mosiria urged members of the public not to judge or discriminate against him, but instead to treat him with dignity, kindness, and respect, noting that he is living with a mental health condition.

He also conveyed the family's appeal to the public not to buy the man alcohol or give him marijuana, saying both can interfere with his prescribed medication and seriously affect his health.
