Friday, July 31, 2026 - Detectives in Embu have launched investigations into the mysterious death of a 26-year-old man whose decomposing body was discovered inside his friend's rented house days after the tenant had travelled to Mombasa.
The
deceased, identified as Mark Muia, was found dead on Tuesday, July 21, at
Himater Apartments in Sunrise Estate within the Blue Valley area after
neighbours complained of a foul smell coming from House B5.
The
apartment caretaker alerted police, prompting officers to break into the house,
where they discovered the decomposing body.
According
to preliminary investigations, the body had no visible external injuries.
Detectives
also recovered a bottle of Predator Energy Drink from the floor inside the
house, which has been documented as part of the investigation.
Police
established that the house belonged to a man who had travelled to Mombasa for a
vacation on Friday, July 17, after leaving the house keys with his friend, Mark
Muia.
While in
Mombasa, the tenant reportedly received a call from detectives informing him
that the friend he had left at his house had been found dead.
Crime
Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from the Directorate of Criminal
Investigations (DCI) processed and documented the scene before the body was
moved to the Embu Level V Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Detectives are awaiting the results of the autopsy as investigations continue to establish the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
