Friday, June 12, 2026 - Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Murang’a County have launched investigations into the brutal killing of a 42‑year‑old man in Kiremu Village, Chui area.
Police identified the deceased as Lawrence Maina Irungu,
whose body was discovered in a maize plantation on Wednesday, June 10th,
just hours after returning home from prison.
Preliminary findings revealed he had sustained multiple
injuries, including deep cuts to the neck, head, and legs.
Investigators established that Irungu, convicted in 2007 for
his father’s murder, had been serving a sentence at Nyeri Prison.
His release followed a successful appeal upheld by the Nyeri
High Court on May 27th, 2026.
He reportedly arrived home on Tuesday, June 9th,
at around 9:30 p.m.
Tragically, his body was found the following morning, about
500 metres from his homestead.
Crime scene officers documented the area before transferring
the body to Kangema Hospital Mortuary for post‑mortem examination.
Detectives are now working to establish the motive behind
the killing and identify those responsible.
