Friday, June 12, 2026 - The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended Nicco Movers 1 Sacco and ordered an immediate halt to all operations following the death of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student.
In a notice issued on Friday, June 12th, NTSA
Director General, Nashon Kondiwa, announced the revocation of the Sacco’s
operator licence, directing that all vehicles under its banner cease operations
immediately.
“The
Authority has resolved to revoke Nicco Movers 1 Sacco’s operator licence and to
cease operation with immediate effect,” the notice stated.
Law enforcement officers were instructed to impound any
vehicles found operating in defiance of the order.
The suspension follows a probe into the death of 19‑year‑old
Eugene Mutuku on Thursday, June 4th, 2026.
Preliminary reports indicate Mutuku was allegedly assaulted
and thrown from a moving matatu during a fare dispute along Thika Road.
The vehicle reportedly failed to stop and instead ran over the student, who succumbed to his injuries.
