Tennis legend SERENA WILLIAMS opens up on freezing her eggs in her 20s and facing the biological clock

Friday, May 15, 2026 - Tennis legend, Serena Williams, has revealed how freezing her eggs in her late 20s gave her peace of mind and helped her balance the demands of motherhood with her professional career.

Speaking during a live recording of IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson on May 14th, 2026, the 23-time Grand Slam champion explained that starting a family was not her immediate priority at the time, as she remained focused on competing at the highest level.

“I was not trying to have a kid at the time,” Williams explained.

“You know what is so interesting about biological clock?”

“I tell my friends of age, freeze your eggs because I just feel like that is the best thing that you can do as a woman as you decide to go on this journey.”

She revealed that freezing her eggs lifted a huge burden.

“I did that because I was still playing professional tennis and I felt like I was not ready to stop. Once I froze my eggs, all this pressure came off my shoulders.”

“I was in my 20s, I was like 27, 28, so it was a really good time to do it and also someone told me to do it,” Williams disclosed.

Now 44, Williams is married to Alexis Ohanian and is a devoted mother to Olympia, eight, and Adira, two.
