- ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator, Dr. Oburu Oginga, has dispelled
speculation over his prolonged absence from the political scene.
On Friday, May 8th, Oburu took to social media,
sharing a video playing golf at the Nyanza Golf Club in Kisumu.
In the clip, he assured Kenyans that he was well and
explained that he had been attending to personal matters while also enjoying a
round of golf.
He posted photos of himself taking a swing, captioned “up
and grateful”, signaling that he was active and in good spirits.
“Thank you for your concerns about my whereabouts. I am here
in Kisumu, buoyant and up and about, playing golf.”
“I want to wish all of you a very happy weekend,” Oburu
stated.
ODM Director of Communication, Philip Etale, acknowledged
mounting pressure from local media houses to clarify Oburu’s absence.
He emphasized that the party leader was fine, noting that
the concern reflected his importance in national politics.
“I want to assure you that the Party Leader is very okay.”
“He is fine. We are very happy that he continues to attract
news and is becoming a source of news that everybody is looking forward to,”
Etale said.
Etale further confirmed that Oburu will resume public
engagements on Saturday, May 9th, with an appearance at the alma
mater of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
His absence, lasting close to two weeks, had fueled speculation after he skipped key ODM events, including a leadership meeting in Mombasa.
