Monday, May 26, 2026 - Marathon great, Eliud Kipchoge, has gushed over his wife, Grace Sugut, for completing her first full marathon at the 2026 Cape Town Marathon in South Africa.

The race was historic for Kipchoge, marking his first marathon on African soil and the opening leg of his seven‑continent farewell tour announced last year.

While the two‑time Olympic champion finished 16th in the elite men’s race, the spotlight quickly shifted to his touching celebration of his wife.

“My heart is filled with pride for my wife, Grace, completing her first marathon in Cape Town,” Kipchoge said, thanking his family and supporters for standing by him throughout his career.

The former world record holder reflected on his journey, recalling his first marathon 13 years ago, a race that transformed his life and legacy.

Kipchoge started strongly, staying with the lead pack for the opening 10 kilometres before fading.

Ethiopia’s Huseyidin Mohamed Esa won in 2:04:55, smashing the course record, while Kipchoge finished in 2:13:29.
