Wednesday, May 13,
2026 - Renowned Cardiologist, Dr. Dan Gikonyo, has disclosed details of a
phone call allegedly made by President William Ruto after former Deputy
President Rigathi Gachagua was admitted to Karen Hospital in October 2024.
Testifying on Wednesday, May 13th during a case
challenging Gachagua’s impeachment, Dr.
Gikonyo revealed that he personally received a call from the Head of State
inquiring about Gachagua’s medical condition.
“Your honour, there are always follow-up calls from
relatives, parents and friends. And in this particular case, I must be honest
enough to specify that I did receive a call from the President,” he told the
court.
According to the Cardiologist, he informed President Ruto
that medical tests were still ongoing and assured him that updates would be
provided once examinations were complete.
“He asked about the status of the patient, and I responded
accordingly. I just said that we are in the process of doing various tests, and
as soon as we conclude, we shall let him know,” he added.
Dr. Gikonyo further explained that before sharing any
information, he sought clearance from Gachagua himself.
“When I said that I had to seek clearance from the patient,
which I did, he gave me permission,” he noted.
The revelations came during a tense cross-examination
session where lawyers pressed the doctor on the completeness of the medical
evidence presented.
The respondent’s lawyer questioned why echocardiogram
graphs, imaging results and laboratory reports had not been attached to the
affidavit.
Gikonyo admitted the tests had been conducted but clarified
that the supporting documents were not filed in court, though available if
required.
