Thursday, May 14, 2026 - A fresh survey by TIFA Research has dealt a hammer blow to ODM Party Leader, Oburu Odinga, after revealing that his “Linda Ground” faction is significantly less popular among party supporters compared to the “Linda Mwananchi” wing led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
Released on Thursday, May 14th, the poll
indicates that 73 percent of ODM supporters back Sifuna’s faction, while only
24 percent support Oburu’s camp.
Three percent remain undecided.
TIFA noted that ODM supporters appear to favour “a more
independent, people-centred opposition approach rather than closer cooperation
with the Government.”
The strong backing for Linda Mwananchi reflects grassroots
demand for leaders perceived as defending public interests and holding the Government
accountable.
Beyond internal divisions, ODM faces a wider challenge as
its national popularity has dropped sharply since the 2022 elections.
As of May 2026, ODM commands support from just 18 percent of
Kenyans, down from 32 percent in August 2022.
UDA, a key partner in the broad-based Government (BBG), has
also seen its support fall from 38 percent in 2022 to 17 percent in 2026.
TIFA’s report shows fluctuating support for the BBG.
After rising to 44 percent in late 2025, backing has now
dropped to 30 percent, nearly returning to August 2025 levels.
Opposition to the BBG has meanwhile grown, increasing from
48 percent in November 2025 to 56 percent in May 2026.
Despite its decline, ODM has overtaken UDA to become the
party with the largest share of supporters.
UDA follows closely, while the Democracy for the Citizens
Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has surged from 6
percent in November 2025 to 16 percent in May 2026.
