WETANG’ULA leaves mourners in stitches with a joke about CS DAVIS CHIRCHIR’s ‘magic’ that cost RAILA the presidency twice

Thursday, April 30, 2026 - National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, lightened the mood at the funeral of Mzee Edwin Koech, father to Transport CS Davis Chirchir, with witty remarks that cracked up mourners.

Speaking on Thursday, April 30th, Wetang’ula described Chirchir as a “computer wizard” whose organisational skills once left the Opposition frustrated during the 2013 and 2017 elections.

He joked that when he was in CORD and NASA, they believed Chirchir had performed “magic” to deny them victory.

“We used to be told that he had such wizardry in Computer Science that he could hijack numbers moving from police stations to the tallying centre, interfere with them, and let them go in a different form,” Wetang’ula quipped, before admitting that Chirchir was simply more organised than their team.

"I later learned that you were simply more organised than our team, and when we came together, your organisation spoke it all," Wetang'ula added.

Wetang’ula further noted his close ties with the CS, disclosing that his nephew had married into the Chirchir family.

The lighthearted banter added a humorous touch to the solemn occasion, leaving mourners amused even as they paid their final respects.
