2026 - Detectives have recovered the decomposing body of 21-year-old Rose
Benter Apondi, a RIAT College female student in RIAT forest, bearing knife stab
wounds.
The discovery comes seven days after her disappearance on
the night of April 5th, 2026, in Kisumu’s Milimani area.
The prime suspect, Steven Coleman Okoth, believed to have
orchestrated her torture and subsequent murder, has been arrested.
According to police reports, the victim was lured into a
drinking spree by two male colleagues from the same institution and drugged,
leaving her incapacitated.
She was later abused and abandoned in a bush in critical
condition.
Her phone went offline shortly after.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, said to be the
victim’s former boyfriend, had issued threats to her over the past two months
and repeatedly visited her residence at RIAT looking for her.
At the time of his arrest, he was found with crucial
exhibits of evidential value.
He is being processed for arraignment as a manhunt for
accomplices continues.
The family and friends, who had spent an agonizing week
searching, broke down in grief.
“We spent a whole week searching without knowing what happened. You have done us very wrong. Rest well, Apondi Nyar Uyoma Kokwiri Nyakongo,” mourned a relative.
