NURSE JUDY opens up on painful childhood struggle and losing her father to HIV - “Life Went Downhill”

Monday, April 20, 2026 - US‑based Kenyan nurse and popular social media personality, Nurse Judy, has shared a deeply personal account of her childhood, reflecting on the dramatic shift from comfort to hardship and the painful loss of her father to HIV.

“Growing up, we were kinda rich, imagine at least for that era,” she said, recalling the early years of relative comfort.

However, things changed suddenly when her father lost everything, plunging the family into financial struggle.

“When I was around 1–4 years, kidogo kidogo Dad akacheza vibaya and we lost everything… then we lost him too in 1998 to HIV.”

“Back when it was such a scary disease with no treatment,” she explained, noting how the stigma and lack of medical options made the loss even harder.

From then on, life became a daily battle.

“From there, life went downhill,” she admitted.

Basic needs were no longer guaranteed, and the family often relied on neighbors for something as simple as breakfast.

“I remember days we depended on neighbours for something as simple as breakfast.”

Through it all, Judy credits her mother for keeping the family afloat.

“But my mom? A real-life superhero. She did EVERYTHING she could to see us through school.”

Meals were often improvised and her mother’s determination ensured education remained a priority despite the hardships.

Today, Nurse Judy is a thriving healthcare professional in the United States, a living testament to resilience, hard work and the power of perseverance.

Her journey from struggle to success underscores the strength of determination and the importance of never giving up.
