Furious RUTO lectures Governor SAKAJA over casual attire during ‘very serious’ State House meeting - ‘They Look Waylaid’ (VIDEO)

Friday, April 10, 2026 - President William Ruto publicly rebuked Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for his choice of attire during a high‑profile state function at State House, Nairobi, on April 10th, 2026.

The event, which marked the signing of an agreement for the Modern Arena and Entertainment District - dubbed “Railway City” - brought together top leaders and dignitaries.

While most attendees were dressed formally, Governor Sakaja appeared in a casual navy‑blue shirt without a suit or tie, drawing the President’s attention.

In his remarks, Ruto jokingly but firmly suggested that such dressing was inappropriate for the venue.

“Looking at the people who have come to this occasion, including the governor of Nairobi, I was asking myself whether they are here by design or they were waylaid.”

“The way they are dressed they don’t look like they knew they were coming to State House,” he said, prompting laughter from the audience.

The President, who wore his signature yellow silk shirt, went further, hinting that security might bar casually dressed leaders from future events.

“I think next time, I will tell the security at State House not to allow people dressed like that,” Ruto added.

This is not the first time the President has publicly called out leaders.

In August 2023, he reprimanded Cabinet Secretaries Kithure Kindiki and Moses Kuria for arriving late to a State House event, insisting that they submit written explanations.
