2025 - Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ has cautioned members of the Orange
Democratic Movement (ODM) against blaming former President Uhuru Kenyatta for
the party’s loss in the 2022 General Elections.
In a statement on Monday, January 5th, Kajwang’
urged ODM leaders to focus on the party’s mission rather than revisiting past
defeats.
“In his lifetime, Raila Odinga held Uhuru Kenyatta in high
regard.”
“This respect did not change even after our 2022 electoral
‘defeat’.”
“We cannot rewrite the narrative just because Baba is no
longer with us,” he said.
Kajwang’ added that the election was “water under the
bridge” and should not be used to sow confusion within ODM.
His remarks came days after Suna East MP, Junet Mohamed,
accused Uhuru and his brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, of mishandling funds meant to
pay Azimio la Umoja agents during the 2022 polls.
Junet claimed that the money was released to Muhoho, who
then appointed Peter Mburu to oversee recruitment and payments.
He questioned Mburu’s credentials, alleging that he posed as
an IT expert capable of safeguarding results.
Junet further alleged that agent logistics were centralized
in a restricted Westlands office controlled by Muhoho, inaccessible even to
Raila Odinga.
He insisted no agents were deployed in key regions,
describing the process as a “long con game.”
The MP called on Uhuru, Muhoho, Mburu and ODM
Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna, to publicly account for their roles.
“Kenyans deserve the truth about the handling of agents’
money; who controlled it, who mishandled it, and then decide who cost us the
election,” Junet said.
Kajwang’, however, maintained that ODM must embrace
progressive alliances and focus on delivering its supporters to “the proverbial
Canaan.”
