Wednesday, January 14, 2026 - Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi is counting losses after a midnight demolition exercise saw excavators and bulldozers, escorted by police officers, move into his business premises along Douglas Wakiihuri Road, off Lang’ata Road, and pull down several semi-permanent structures.
The overnight operation affected multiple businesses and
installations at the site, including a car yard, car wash facility
and a restaurant.
Vehicles parked within the premises were also damaged during
the exercise.
By morning, heaps of debris and demolished structures were
still visible, while sections of Douglas Wakiihuri Road
remained blocked, disrupting movement in the area behind Nyayo
Stadium.
The demolitions were carried out near the railway
line close to Nyayo Stadium, with police providing tight
security as contractors undertook the exercise.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander, George
Seda, confirmed that officers were deployed to support Kenya
Railways in repossessing the land.
“The management says they had notified the owner to vacate,
but there was resistance. We came in to provide security during the
demolition,” said Seda.
Officials indicated that the clearance is linked to planned
developments along the railway corridor near Talanta Stadium,
part of ongoing infrastructure-related works.

Reclaiming public land shouldn't be a midnight vendetta. Innocent citizens had their cars destroyed.

If we're flattening Wamatangi’s property, let’s apply that same energy to all stolen public land.
