Wednesday, January 14, 2026 - Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized heroin valued at approximately Sh 1.19 million following a swift, intelligence-led operation in Nakuru.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Ephantus Kariuki Mwangi, was arrested while riding a motorcycle registration number KMEC 785W.

Detectives became suspicious after noticing luggage he was carrying, prompting a search.

Upon inspection, officers recovered 397 grams of heroin carefully concealed inside the luggage. Also found were two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes.

Investigators believe the arrest disrupted an active drug supply operation within the region.

Kariuki is currently being held in police custody as detectives finalize investigations ahead of his arraignment in court.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks through sustained intelligence-driven operations and multi-agency collaboration, emphasizing zero tolerance for drug traffickers in the pursuit of a safer, drug-free Kenya.
