14, 2026 - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairperson, Gladys Wanga, has
refuted claims that the party intends to expel Nairobi Senator, Edwin Sifuna,
following his absence from the recently held Central Committee meeting.
Speaking during an interview on Ramogi TV, Wanga emphasized
that ODM remains a democratic party where divergent opinions are permitted.
She stressed that Sifuna’s views on the broad-based
arrangement do not amount to misconduct.
“ODM is a democratic party. Anyone at the party is allowed
to have their own opinion,” she said, adding that discipline only applies once
the party has reached a binding collective decision.
Wanga questioned the basis of calls to remove Sifuna, asking
what wrongdoing the ODM Secretary General had committed.
“Anyone in the party is allowed to have their opinion, but
once the party makes a binding decision, then it should be followed.
“We are not chasing anyone away from the party. What has
Sifuna done wrong to be sent away?” she posed.
Addressing concerns about absenteeism, Wanga clarified that
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi had formally requested permission to miss the
meeting as he was on official duty in South Africa with the Senate Liaison
Committee.
“I have spoken to him several times while he has been in
South Africa. He told me he would be coming back this week.”
“He is on official duty and cannot suspend his journey to
attend the meeting,” she explained.
On Sifuna’s absence, Wanga revealed that he sent an apology,
explaining that he had missed his flight.
She noted that the meeting was not disrupted, as quorum was
achieved.
“Sifuna also sent an apology saying he missed his flight… As
long as the meeting has a quorum,” she concluded.
