2026 - Celebrated Kenyan activist and presidential aspirant, Boniface
Mwangi, has
revealed a deeply personal chapter of his family story that many Kenyans may
not know.
Speaking candidly on the Iko Nini Podcast, Mwangi
disclosed that he has an elder brother in Tanzania whom he has never met.
The brother, named Bernard Waroi, was taken to
Tanzania decades ago after a fallout between Mwangi’s mother and Waroi’s
father, a Tanzanian of Chaga descent.
“Niko na brother Tanzania, baba yake alimuiba so ako
Tanzania, our fourth born, my mother had a relationship with a Chaga man from
Tanzania.”
“When they fell out, wakati mama alienda biashara, akaiba
mtoto akaenda na yeye, I have a Tanzanian brother,” Mwangi revealed.
He added that Waroi would now be about 45 or 46 years old.
“If you are in Tanzania and your name is Bernard Waroi, I am
your brother. He was born in 80/81, so he should be 45/46 years old,” Mwangi
said.
The activist further shared that he was born in Taveta, though he did not grow up with his
father, who was a District Officer.
His mother, a businesswoman, traded between Kenya and
Tanzania.
“I was born in Taveta, my father was a District Officer
(D.O.), but I did not grow up with him.”
“Mama yangu alikuwa business trader, alikuwa anafanya
biashara between Kenya and Tanzania,” he explained.
Mwangi also revealed that he is the fifth‑born in a blended
family, with his mother having seven children from six different relationships.
“I am the fifth born; my father moved on and married, and he
has other kids.”
“My mother had seven kids with six different relationships,”
he said.
