Monday, November 24, 2025 - Residents of Kadenge sub‑location in Alego Usonga Constituency are reeling in shock after waking up to a shocking discovery of a man’s body hanging from a mango tree in Udura village on Sunday, November 23rd.
The deceased, identified as Nicholas Otieno, better known as
Abanko, 35, is believed to have taken his own life following a bitter domestic
dispute over dowry cattle paid for his elder sister.
According to Kadenge Assistant Chief Jacob Ouma, the family
reported the incident shortly after 3:00 a.m.
Preliminary reports suggest Otieno had demanded full control
of the dowry animals, but his mother allegedly offered him only one calf.
The fall out quickly escalated into a heated quarrel.
Otieno reportedly left home around 9:00 p.m on Saturday.
Hours later, youths returning from a funeral vigil stumbled
upon his lifeless body and raised the alarm.
Chief Ouma confirmed that the dowry had been settled during
a ceremony the previous day, with Otieno insisting that he should receive at
least two cows.
Police officers later visited the scene and transferred the
body to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary.
