Cracks in ODM widen further as vocal MP threatens to quit over renewed calls for protests - “I will leave ODM for Nyanza leaders and back RUTO”

Friday, November 21, 2025 - The simmering tension in ODM is threatening to spill over after Matungu MP, Peter Nabulindo, warned that he could abandon the party if leaders push for renewed nationwide protests.

In a strongly worded speech, Nabulindo dismissed calls for fresh demonstrations, insisting that Western Kenya had resolved to remain in the broad-based Government.

“As the people of Western, we have decided that we will remain in the broad-based arrangement and there is no going back to the streets in the name of Maandamano,” he said.

The legislator questioned the motives behind the agitation, pointing to milestones achieved under President William Ruto’s administration in just three years, including affordable housing and improved access to water and electricity.

He cautioned that if ODM leaders from Nyanza choose to rejoin the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections, he will have no option but to quit.

“We will remain in the broad-based government, and if those leaders from Nyanza try to go to the streets, then we will leave ODM for them and back Ruto’s administration,” he affirmed.

His remarks underscore growing divisions within ODM over its cooperation with the Government.

Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, has repeatedly criticized the arrangement, warning that it could weaken the party, while Siaya Governor James Orengo recently questioned the credibility of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between ODM and UDA earlier this year.
