FOR THE RECORD
Firstly, may I say with a heavy heart, RIP Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga. Secondly, please, let us let Baba Rest in Peace just like we let HE Daniel Arap Moi, HE Mwai Kibaki, HE Michael Kijana Wamalwa and all others who have since left us, Rest in Peace. That will be the biggest honor we shall give this great son other soil.
RESPECT FOR BABA
Baba was fought in life. Why, for standing for the truth, speaking truth to power, fighting for the rights of Kenyans and defending Kenyans. Baba’s crime was standing for the Truth, defending democracy and protecting the freedoms that we enjoy today. He deserves respect in DEATH even if you never respected him while he walking on his two feet.
BABA’S ANTAGONISTS
Most people who are today enjoying their presence on social media and whipping people’s emotions through their unsubstantiated posts and unnecessary arguments and innuendos, are beneficiaries of Raila Odinga’s benevolence. They have survived on Raila’s goodwill and big heart for years. Some of them, until the other day have been calling Raila Odinga to peddle lies and solicit for funds from him for survival. They have been more ticks than supporters. Yet they now have the audacity to insult him and post nasty things about him. For Christ’s sake, Baba is now in the grave. Today is day two. Please respect him.
BABA’S LAST MOMENTS
On Tuesday 30th September 2025, Baba rang me, as was his routine. He always rang me when he wanted to pass an information to me for dissemination or just to check on me and inquire about something. That was the kind of relationship I had with Baba. We spoke at around noon. He spoke to so many other people including party officials. On Thursday 2nd October, I had a chance to sit in a meeting that he chaired at Serena Hotel alongside DPL Sen. Godfrey Osotsi, National Chairperson Hon. Gladys Wanga, Hon. Rosa Buyu, ED Oduor Ong’wen, Hon. Junet Mohamed and Hon. Irene Nyakerario Mayaka. The meeting was about plans for the ODM at 20 celebrations. He was very happy with the progress of the preparations and how build up activities were going on. He then disclosed that he would be traveling to India the following day for routine medical checkups and that he would be back in two weeks time. From the meeting, he walked shoulder to shoulder by his colleagues in the party to an area we had designated for the photo-op. He led in the chanting of the CHUNGWA NATION, TUKUTANE MOMBASA.
While in India, Baba personally called his friends and those he trusted and updated them on the progress of his treatment. I am privileged to have been one of those. I vividly remember on Monday 6th at around 12:55pm, he called me. It was like a coincidence because I was seated in the office with some of our youths who had come to me to seek clarification on the news that was spreading on social media regarding Baba’s health. I sought his permission to put him on loud speaker so he could assure the young men that he was okey. He agreed. The boys were happy. They left smiling and assured. It is then that Baba said “Philip I can see people posting so many untruths about be online (laughing and giggling)”. “Tell them we are praying for them”. I posted that immediately. Many who hated Baba rebuked me. I chose to keep quiet.
Baba had planned to return home on Friday 17th October 2025. He knew he would return home on that day, but God thought otherwise. He passed on in India on the morning of Wednesday 15th October, 2025.
MY PLEA
Let us show some respect to the dead. Baba never had the time to respond to charlatans spreading hate and lies on socials. Baba never wanted to engage with people who had the freedom to say anything they wanted. He knew very well that some lapdogs would be used to say anything and spread rumors and misinformation. Propaganda in life and propaganda in death are two different things. Insult someone when he is alive to defend him/herself and not when he/she is six feet under. Ends…
