2025 - Cheche Ababu, the 14-year-old son of former Sports CS and current UN
diplomat Ababu Namwamba, is revving up for a major milestone - his
international motorsport debut in the Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross
Championship.
Set to hit the Pembrey Circuit in Wales next weekend, Cheche
joins the prestigious Peter Gwynne Motorsport (PGM) team, a launchpad for
talents like Ole Henry Steinsholt and Roberts Vitols.
Cheche’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.
From mastering karting at just five years old to dominating
Kenya’s junior buggy scene, the young speedster is now taking his talent
global.
“I’m
excited to make my international rallycross debut in the UK.”
“It’s
an incredible opportunity, and I look forward to the challenge of testing my
skills against other young and upcoming drivers from around the world,” he
stated.
“I’m
grateful to my family and friends who’ve supported me this far, and I hope to
make them proud as I represent Kenya on the track.”
His selection follows a standout year where he opened the
2025 WRC Safari Rally at Kasarani in the FIA’s new CrossCar, a vehicle built to
promote youth rallying worldwide.
Cheche now joins the ranks of Kenya’s rising motorsport
stars like Maxine Wahome and McRae Kimathi, carrying not just the Kenyan flag,
but also the hopes of a new generation of racers.
