Wednesday, July 23, 2025 - People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader, Martha Karua, has disclosed that she personally called ODM leader, Raila Odinga, following the July 7th Saba Saba protests, urging him to reconsider his support for the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking on Wednesday, July 23rd, Karua said she
was disturbed by the ongoing killings of protestors and felt compelled to
confront Raila over his stance.
“After Saba Saba, I called him and asked how his conscience
sits with the continuous blood-letting by the Kenya Kwanza regime.”
“I told him I didn’t want a discussion - just for him to
reflect. Isn’t it time he withdrew his support?” Karua stated.
She reminded Raila that without his endorsement, the
regime’s legitimacy could crumble and that even Parliament could hold it
accountable.
Karua emphasized that, given Raila’s history as a defender
of people’s rights, she expected a stronger moral stand.
During the call, Karua said Raila mentioned being
misunderstood regarding the national dialogue (conclave) proposal.
He suggested a face-to-face meeting, but Karua declined,
stating that she was traveling to the United States and was not open to a
meeting at the time.
Karua’s revelations come amid growing public dissatisfaction
with the Government’s handling of protests and deepening cracks among
opposition leaders over how best to respond.
