Thursday, July 24, 2025 - People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader, Martha Karua, has declared she is open to working with ODM leader, Raila Odinga, but only if he cuts ties with President William Ruto and backs her 2027 presidential bid.
Speaking during an interview on Ramogi FM, Karua said she had previously supported Odinga’s
presidential ambitions and now expects him to return the favour.
“Yes, I am ready to work with him if he severs ties with
Ruto and supports me,” she stated.
Karua criticized Odinga’s cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza
administration, claiming that it has alienated the revolutionary youth who once
looked up to him.
“Raila used to have a firm political stance, but he has
since relaxed.”
“His alignment with the current regime, which has oppressed
many youths, is disappointing,” she said.
The former Azimio running mate said she drifted apart from
Odinga after he chose to work with President Ruto, a move she termed as
betrayal.
On the upcoming 2027 General Elections, Karua warned of
attempts to compromise the electoral process and announced that the opposition
will establish a parallel tallying centre to independently verify results.
“We won’t allow the government to rig the elections.”
“The United Opposition will have its own electoral oversight
system,” she declared.
