Thursday, July 24, 2025 - The Kenya African National Union (KANU) has dismissed claims suggesting its leader, former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, is backing President William Ruto’s Government.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 24th, the
party condemned a circulating video alleging Moi’s support for the current
regime, terming it as misleading and deliberately taken out of context.
According to KANU, the clip - filmed in 2021 during the
funeral of the late Hosea Kiplagat - was recorded before Ruto ascended to
power.
The party accused Government-aligned actors of repackaging
the footage with distorted captions to mislead the public.
"The clip in question has been stripped of its proper
context and paired with a distorted transcription to deliberately mislead the
public," KANU stated.
"This shallow and futile misinformation campaign comes
at a time when the Government is losing public trust and resorting to
fabricating political alliances."
KANU reaffirmed that Gideon Moi has no intention of aligning
with the Kenya Kwanza administration, stressing that any political decision
must go through formal party mechanisms.
“Fundamental decisions about political alliances are
sanctioned through structured party processes,” the statement read.
The party further noted it will communicate its next
political move in due course.
“Until such a time the leadership and membership of the
party make a determination, Gideon Moi stays put.”
