WETANGULA’s Ford Kenya fires warning shot to RUTO over police brutality - ‘Our agreement with UDA is not based on murder’

Friday, June 20, 2025 - The Ford Kenya Party, led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, has strongly condemned recent incidents of police brutality across the country.

Speaking during a press briefing, party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to human rights, distancing themselves from any acts of violence allegedly carried out by state agencies.

Tongaren MP, John Chikati, emphasized that the party’s partnership with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the Kenya Kwanza coalition is founded on development, not repression.

“Our agreement with UDA is based on development, not murder.”

“We value the sanctity of human life and condemn any killing of Kenyan citizens,” said Chikati.

He added that Ford Kenya supports President William Ruto's efforts to ensure justice is served in all cases of unlawful killings.

Bungoma Senator David Wakoli echoed the party’s stance, specifically calling out the deaths of social media influencer Albert Ojwang and hawker Boniface Kariuki, who was fatally shot during protests in Nairobi.

“We also remember the priest killed by bandits and the over 20 Turkana fishermen who died in Lake Turkana.”

“Every Kenyan life matters,” Wakoli stated.

Wakoli reiterated Ford Kenya’s solidarity with citizens demanding accountability and urged the Government to act swiftly against rogue officers violating human rights.

This comes after Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga issued a strongly worded statement warning President Ruto that ODM's support for the broad-based Government deal could collapse if the current surge in extra-judicial killings is not stopped.

She stressed that the continued loss of innocent lives undermines the spirit of unity and inclusion that informed ODM's decision to back the Government.
