Tuesday, June 17, 2025 - There was public uproar on Tuesday after a disturbing video surfaced online showing a female police officer brutally slapping an unarmed female protester in broad daylight in Mombasa’s Central Business District (CBD).
The incident, which took place during a peaceful
demonstration organized by civil rights activists to protest against the death
of blogger Albert Ojwang, has reignited the debate on police brutality and the
use of excessive force against civilians.
In the viral footage, the protesting woman, who had wrapped
her head with a Kenyan flag, is seen confronting the female officer, urging her
to be more humane.
“Sisi sote ni binadamu,” she is heard saying as she
confronts the officer.
The visibly agitated female officer storms toward her as the
confrontation ensues.
Without warning, the officer slaps her across the face,
causing the woman to stagger as other protesters watch, with some trying to
intervene.
