Lawyer NELSON HAVI on why DIG ELIUD LAGAT should be arrested and charged with murder over ALBERT OJWANG’s death - ‘He is the principal suspect’

Tuesday, June 10, 2025 - Prominent city lawyer, Nelson Havi, has spoken out on the controversial death of influencer and teacher Albert Ojwang, who died while in police custody at Nairobi’s Central Police Station on Sunday, June 8th.

Ojwang had been arrested a day earlier in Homa Bay for allegedly defaming Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat on social media.

He was transferred to Nairobi - over 400 kilometers away - under unclear circumstances.

Ojwang was later found unconscious during routine cell checks and pronounced dead at Mbagathi Hospital at 1:39 a.m. on Sunday.

Police claim Ojwang died after fatally injuring himself by hitting a cell wall.

However, this explanation has been widely disputed, with growing calls for accountability.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Havi accused DIG Lagat of being directly responsible for Ojwang’s death.

“Albert Ojwang was killed on instructions of Eliud Lagat… Lagat should be arrested and charged with murder. Anything else is nothing but a cover-up,” he wrote.

Inspector General Douglas Kanja has since interdicted the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and all officers who were on duty that night. Investigations into the incident are currently underway amid rising public pressure for justice.
