Monday, March 3, 2025 - Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has sent home two county officials, James Sankale and John Ntoiti, over the illegal dumping incident at Stima Plaza, while three other employees, Augustine Otieno, Moses Gitari and Alice Okare, have been arrested and charged with sabotage, robbery with violence and illegal waste disposal.
Appearing before the Departmental Committee on Administration
and National Security, Sakaja condemned the incident, describing it as
unacceptable and stating that the County took immediate action to clear the
waste and fumigate the area.
The dispute, which escalated when Kenya Power disconnected
electricity to several County facilities, saw Nairobi County officials cut off
water supply to Stima Plaza and block access with garbage trucks.
Sakaja maintained that the county's actions were linked to
unpaid wayleave fees rather than retaliation for the electricity cuts.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that
investigations are ongoing, revealing that two Kenya Power employees were
detained by County enforcement officers but later released without charges.
One employee, David Mauti Kiriago, reported being robbed of
Ksh 3,000 and a Seiko 5 wristwatch valued at Ksh 15,000 during the standoff.
