Tuesday, March 11, 2025 - A man linked to a fake jobs scandal has been charged at Milimani Law Courts.

Michael Gikonyo Muthoni, also known as David Mbugua Mungai, denied the charges before Magistrate Lucas Onyina.

He was charged that on October 5th, 2024, and October 28th, 2024, at an unknown location within the Republic, he obtained Sh1,951,000 from Christine Nyambura Nkonge by falsely claiming he could secure jobs abroad for her clients, knowing this to be untrue.

He faced a second count of obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.

The court was informed that on various dates between October 21st, 2024, and October 28th, 2024, he obtained Sh300,000 under the same false claims.

Through his lawyer, the accused pleaded for release on favourable bond terms, stating that he had cooperated with investigators.

“Your honour, I have been out on police bond of Ksh 30,000, and I am not a flight risk,” he said.

The accused informed the court that he had been attending court summons faithfully and that there were no grounds to deny him bond.

His lawyer added that it was in the interest of justice for him to be granted bail, assuring the court of his compliance.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh 400,000 or a bond of Ksh 700,000.
