Friday, October 30, 2026 - Detectives have arrested two suspected robbers following an intelligence-led operation in Mudete, Sabatia Sub-County, in connection with a daring robbery in which a woman was robbed of Ksh 1 million at gunpoint in Chemobo Village, Aldai Constituency, Nandi County.

The incident occurred on October 19, 2026, at around 2:50 p.m., when the victim, accompanied by a friend, visited Co-operative Bank, Mbale Branch, where she withdrew the money intended for the purchase of building materials.

After completing the transaction, the two boarded a matatu before alighting at Shamakhokho PSV stage, where they hired a motorcycle for their onward journey to Chemobo.

However, their journey was abruptly interrupted upon reaching a murram road near Erusui Girls Secondary School, where a white Toyota Probox suddenly blocked their way.

Before they could make sense of what was happening, four men emerged from the vehicle, two of them armed with pistols, and violently accosted them.

The gang made away with the Ksh 1 million, which was packed in a shopping bag, alongside another bag containing the victim's National Identity Card, Co-operative Bank ATM card and an Itel mobile phone before speeding off towards Serem Town.

Following the report, detectives launched investigations and deployed intelligence-led strategies to track down the suspects.

The operation, conducted in the dead of night by Serem-based detectives led by the Officer in Charge of CRIB Western, DCI Hamisi, alongside detectives from DCI Sabatia, resulted in the arrest of two suspects identified as Charles Alure Kutai, 54, and Hillary Akurumana, 34, in Mudete, Sabatia Sub-County.

A subsequent search at Charles Alure's residence led to the recovery of several items suspected to be linked to criminal activities.

The recovered items included two pocket phones, one handcuff, ten assorted mobile phones, several Safaricom and Airtel SIM cards, a penknife, a screwdriver and several cut-out motor vehicle registration number plates.

The two suspects are also suspected to be behind a string of similar robberies reported in the region.

Detectives are pursuing additional leads to establish the full extent of their criminal activities and apprehend other accomplices who may still be at large.
