Friday, October 02, 2026 - The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has approved the reservation of the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM), marking a significant development in the dispute over the proposed political party's registration.
In a letter dated October 2,
Registrar of Political Parties John Lorionokou informed Suba South MP Caroli
Omondi that the application to reserve the party name had been successful.
The approval follows a directive
issued by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), which ordered the
Registrar to reconsider an earlier decision rejecting the name.
Lorionokou stated that the
reservation was granted pursuant to the judgment in PPDTA/E001/2026 Michael Caroli Omondi & Another vs Registrar
of Political Parties and in accordance with the Political Parties Act.
“Your application for the name Linda
Mwananchi Movement (LMM) has been approved.
“The reservation of the name shall
be for a period of not more than ninety (90) days from the date of this
letter,” the Registrar stated.
The approval means the promoters of
the movement now have 90 days to complete the full registration process
required for recognition as a political party.
Digital strategist Pauline Njoroge
welcomed the decision, describing it as a victory after months of legal and
administrative challenges.
“The people have fought for this,
and God has been on our side. We have our name, Linda Mwananchi Movement
(LMM),” she said.
The latest directive comes days
after the PPDT overturned an earlier decision by the Registrar that had
declined to reserve the name and its variations.
In its September 30 ruling, the Tribunal
found that the rejection lacked legal justification and was inconsistent with
the Political Parties Act and the Constitution.
