Former nominated senator GLORIA ORWOBA reacts after Uncle FRED MACHOKA publicly ejected her from anniversary celebration for chanting 'WANTAM'

Monday, October 12, 2026 - Veteran radio presenter Fred Machoka was forced to briefly interrupt celebrations marking his 50-year career in the media industry after his niece, former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, turned a family tribute into a political moment.

The lavish gala, dubbed Machoka@50, was held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex and brought together some of Africa’s celebrated musicians alongside prominent political and business leaders.

Drama unfolded during a segment where family members were invited on stage to pay tribute to the veteran broadcaster.

After handing the microphone to Orwoba, who is his sister’s daughter, Machoka appeared surprised when she used the opportunity to chant “WANTAM” and flashed the hand sign associated with the opposition-linked campaign calling for President William Ruto to serve only one term.

The unexpected political message did not sit well with the host.

A visibly irritated Machoka immediately ordered security officers to escort her off the stage.

“Please, Security, toa huyu msichana hapa. You can not screw up my job. Next time you are with your uncle, utajua hapa huna neno, utatii,” he said as guests looked on.

Despite the public rebuke, Orwoba appeared unbothered by the incident.

Taking to social media, she  jokingly referenced the confrontation, writing: “Good morning! Lazima nikumbushe, Uncle mambo ni WANTAM!”
