- A multi-agency security team has intercepted a shipment of narcotics
valued at over Ksh 10.5 million at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
following a swift intelligence-led operation.
The operation, spearheaded by the Anti-Narcotics
Unit (ANU) at JKIA, was conducted at around 11:30 a.m at the
United Parcel Service (UPS)-G4S facility located within the KQ Shed.
Authorities had flagged a suspicious consignment that was
destined for Las Piñas in the Philippines.
The parcel had been deceptively declared as containing
“handmade bags and clothes.”
However, a meticulous physical inspection by the joint team
revealed white crystalline substances hidden inside two handbags and wrapped in
clear packaging.
Preliminary tests confirmed the substance to be
methamphetamine weighing 1,320 grams, with an estimated street value of Ksh
10,560,000.
The drugs have since been seized and secured as exhibits.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
has launched investigations to identify and apprehend those behind the
attempted smuggling.
Authorities say the successful operation highlights their continued commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks through coordinated, intelligence-driven efforts.
