Friday, April 17, 2026 - Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is facing criticism on social media after flying from Nairobi to Kilifi with a large entourage to preside over a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony.
In a video circulating online, the Deputy President is seen
using a mattock to dig the foundation of a classroom, sparking reactions across
social media platforms.
Critics have accused him of misusing public resources,
arguing that such an exercise could have been handled by local leaders or
community members without the need for high-level travel and the costs
associated with security and logistics.
The backlash comes barely a week after members of the
National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee raised concerns over reports that
the DP’s office was spending up to Ksh 8 million per day on helicopter use.
