Friday, April 3, 2026 - A video has surfaced online showing Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit undergoing a traditional cleansing ritual performed by a group of elders, just days after his dramatic altercation with Senators at Parliament Buildings.
In the clip, elders are seen conducting the ceremony in what
is believed to be a cultural rite aimed at protection and spiritual cleansing.
At one point, one of the elders is seen spitting saliva on
the Governor, an act that, in some traditions, is symbolic and associated with
blessings or warding off negative energy.
The ritual comes in the wake of a heated confrontation
between Governor Lelelit and members of the Senate County Public Accounts
Committee (CPAC).
The scuffle involved several Senators, including Nairobi
Senator Edwin Sifuna, after tensions escalated during a press briefing within
Parliament precincts.
Senators had accused the Governor of repeatedly failing to
honour summons to respond to audit queries, prompting them to confront him when
he was holding a presser.
